Citra is a free and open-source video game console emulator.

Citra is a free and open-source video game console emulator for Nintendo 3DS that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs. Citra supports a large number of Nintendo 3DS games. However, before playing, you have to check the compatibility using Citra website to avoid issues. Citra started in 1984 but real progress started for Citra Emulator in 2015. From thereon, it evolved as an experiment on emulators that could not play games to games playable software. Citra development was a collaborative effort but specific recognition is due to people behind 3dmoo (Pluto, Normmatt, and Ichfly) who performed major reverse engineering to make the software run commercial games. Credit also goes to Bond 697, Yellows8, Finc, and among others who provided the means to run Homebrew. Citra is indeed very fortunate for the huge community that rendered their talents to improve the software over the years.
